INTRODUCTION
The Patrons of Scoil Sinead is a mixed gender, multi denominational school sets out its admission and enrolment policy in accordance with the Education Act 1998. We are available to answer any questions that might arise or to clarify any sections of this policy. Scoil Sinead will ensure that gender balance in the school population is a priority and although we cannot ensure a 50/50 split will try to ensure that it is not more that 20% difference where possible. We will try to offer places to the same amount of boys and girls.
When the school opens we are hoping to cater for a maximum of 1000 students when it reaches full capacity with every mainstream class an ASD class will be attached. The children in the ASD class will move with their peers right through their secondary school years and still have the curriculum tailored to their individual needs. We will be using the statutory framework of the National curriculum and will try to ensure that all children including the ASD children leave the school with either their leaving cert or equivalent qualifications or vocational skills. The school will cater for children between the age of 12 and 18 years.
Scoil Sinead’s aim is to get the students to show respect for all individuals and self, show inclusions of others, fairness and co-operation with the wider community and give back to the community in their own way, promotion of Irish culture. Scoil Sinead will do this by ensuring it provides a suitable environment with a high level of support for all students, give excellent teaching to allow all the students achieve their full potential and to make the most of their intelligence, focus and skills. We will try to ensure to the best of our ability that all students as best as possible that leaves the school will progress into training, employment or further education.
Students enrolled in Scoil Sinead with special needs are catered for insofar as school resources, supported by the Department of Education and Science, and by fundraising that will be done by parents of children attending the school and any contributors to the cause we can get. Access to the autism classes requires appropriate certification to satisfy the requirements of the National Council for Special Education. The school is particularly aware of its statutory responsibilities under the Equal Status Acts 2000-2004 in relation to the admission of students with disabilities and other special educational needs, and in relation to the relevant discriminatory grounds as set out in section 3 of the 2000 Act.
